President's Message

Next week is the ARCS Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA. We hope that many of you can attend and, if you can't, you can be certain that we will be hard at work in "The Big Easy" to help continue the progress we have made in the last year at building our organization. We've had a great year, so we might even celebrate our success a little bit. We are looking forward all the hospitality the south has to offer, especially with our generous hosts, Enrique's Cleaning, Russell's Cleaning Service and NOLA Rugs.

We have welcomed many new members this year including 11 Associate Members. Thank you all for your commitment and dedication. We have also had several very successful and well attended courses including our first CRS course. We want to give Oriental Rug Cleaning in Dallas and Robert Mann Oriental Rugs in Denver a huge THANKS for playing host to the courses and to Ellen Amirkhan, Robert Mann, Aaron Groseclose and Armen Dohanian III for being such knowledgeable instructors.

Hope to see you in New Orleans!

When I started learning about rugs in a more professional way I continued to appreciate Bijars, but I had a limited idea of what Bijars were and what came from the area. A few years ago a dealer who specializes in Bijar moved near to our shop and it was an eye opening experience. When it came time to choose a topic for the CRS paper I wanted to find a topic that was a little bit off the beaten path. It seemed that several people had written about similar topics, and one of those was general rug ID. I decided I wanted to go into a little bit of detail about a weaving area that interested me and eventually I, with Ellen’s help, settled on Bijar. Read More...

ARCS: Technical Committee announcement

The founding members of ARCS envisioned an organization able to ‘advance the arts and science of rug care’. It’s a big topic and there are a lot of places to begin.

A committee has been formed to identify areas of interest and possible ways of researching them. All attendees at the ARCS Nola meeting are invited to join in a discussion of potential topics to be studied. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 5, 3:30- 4:30 at The Maison Dupuy in New Orleans. Read More...
